They opened a case and asked me to call back in 7 business days. I immediately called customer support and reported the fact. The transaction was denied but the money appeared on the statement as "Transaction Complete" and the name of the merchant had nothing to do with Best Buy. Got a $500 virtual Gift Card from my boss. It's not right or fair to be treated this way. I wasted a lot of time over the course of days trying to figure out why my card wasn't working. WHY? BECAUSE it is our money and we should have absolute access to it. As a side note, these card providers should also be required to provide an ATM option for direct withdrawal of the amount. And this review doesn't include scam folks have had to endure. It is absolutely ridiculous what we go through trying to use these cards. Vanilla Gift Card uses a variety of techniques to rob users of the money they have on the gift cards, which include: - refusing transactions if the amount is not less than the amount on the gift card THIS IS A PROBLEM when you want to use the exact amount on the gift card - arbitrarily declining transaction attempts without first notifying or checking with the user THIS IS A PROBLEM when you have money on the gift card and simply can't access it without explanation and then only get an auto message that they decided you can't use the funds THIS IS ANOTHER PROBLEM if you can't get to a place to use the card in person as the auto message says it suddenly required OR what you need isn't available through an in person effort - not allowing users with multiple cards a way to consolidate their amounts THIS IS A PROBLEM because a user may have one card with $2 or so and another with another amount that when combined will increase their buying power even if modestly so but instead folks are left with amounts they can't use THAT WHILE MODEST FOR THEM INDIVIDUALLY AMOUNT TO LIKELY MILLIONS AND BILLIONS FOR THIS ORCHESTRATED EFFORT BY VANILLA GIFT CARD TO SEPARATE USERS FROM THESE FUNDS Essentially, Vanilla Gift Card should be the subject of a class action lawsuit and have to pay everyone every cent owed. Do I think that will help anything.? No, however, I must try and do something to stop this blatant money grab. I'm going to speak with the manager at my Walgreen and send an email to corporate. Everyone is experiencing the same issues unfortunately. Not sure what else to say based on what's out here already. They shouldn't stock a clearly fraudulent product. I was scammed, AGAIN! Then I come out here and see MANY people also fell for this scam!! HOW CAN THIS CARD STILL BE AVAILABLE!! I'm also holding Walgreen responsible as that is the only place that carries them around here. I purchased it because it was easy, several days later the person I gifted contacted me to indicate that the card will NOT work at any of the places she tried. I stopped in knowing they had "Vanilla" chargeable credit cards, however, also knowing over the years I've experienced nothing but problems both as a "giver" and "recipient". I needed a quick gift and was passing a Walgreen. I found this on Redddit and it's been happening to everyone, tried to post the link but it's not allowing it. They are no longer a trust worthy company and if this keeps up they will go under fast and they will deserve it. WHAT, MAYBE, WTH NOW VISA IS STEALING? I waited a few months and thought let me try again surely this can't happen again, but guess what it happened again and customer service is absolute sh**. The 1st time after a week I finally got someone to help me, the 2nd time the guy on the phone canceled my card then had the nerve to tell me to send a email to some one with a copy of the receipt tell them what happened and maybe they will send me a new one. You call the number on the back and you speak to someone who acts as if they can not understand English and gives you the run around. The last 3 Vanilla gift cards I have purchased 2 online through the Visa site and 1 at cvs has failed ro work. They use to be a perfectly good solution to everyday gifts, online purchases so you didn't have to enter your debit card info. I am not sure what is going on with Vanilla Visa gift cards recently but I would advise not buying them anymore.
